Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does It Cost to Build a Custom Deck?
The cost to build a custom deck is determined by square footage, material selection, railing style, and design complexity. A detailed consultation outlines project scope before construction begins. Decks are built for safety, durability, and outdoor comfort while ensuring proper structural framing and secure installation. A standard 12×20 single story deck is between $15,000-$20,000 which includes composite decking, railing, and a set of stairs.
Most deck construction projects are completed within several days to a couple of weeks depending on size and design features. The timeline includes framing, decking installation, railing construction, and finishing work. A structured build schedule keeps the project moving efficiently while maintaining quality craftsmanship.
Pressure-treated lumber and composite decking are the most popular deck materials due to durability and weather resistance. Composite requires less maintenance, while treated lumber offers affordability and strength. Material selection is based on maintenance preference, budget, and long-term performance goals for your outdoor space.
Yes, most deck builds require permits because they involve structural framing and safety regulations. Permit approval ensures proper footing depth, railing height, and load support requirements are met. Confirming guidelines before construction helps prevent inspection issues and ensures the deck is built safely and correctly.
A deck should be replaced if you notice structural movement, rotting support posts, loose ledger boards, or unstable railings. Surface-level issues like cracked boards can often be repaired. A structural inspection determines whether reinforcement or a full rebuild is the safer long-term solution.
