Are you shopping around? Your most common questions answered

Shopping around for a shed can be mind boggling. All the options, sizes, and various upgrades and prices can be confusing. Luckily for you we have most of your answers right here.

What do you build your sheds out of?

Simply put we build high-quality sheds using the best products available. Our most popular size is an 8×12 and our standard shed includes the materials outlined below as well as (2) 18” x 27” windows, vents, and is lockable to secure your equipment and valuables.

We build our sheds with low to no maintenance materials to last 30 years or more.

Floor System:

BuildTuff TuffBlock and 4×4 pressure treated (PT) posts support the PT 2×6 joists. Each TuffBlock can support up to 1700 lbs. The average shed we build has 8 TuffBlocks and weighs about 2,000lbs or one ton.

We use the “flat out best” Advantech floor sheathing which is industry standard for building homes. We build our shed floor systems using modern construction materials that are as strong or perhaps even stronger than the floor in your home depending on when it was built.

Walls:

We use standard 2×4 construction with our standard height being 6.5 feet tall which allows most people to comfortably walk around in their shed. The peak of the roof height is about 8 feet tall on an 8 foot wide shed. The wider the shed the taller the peak of the roof. We then sheath our sheds with LP smartside panels.

T1-11 Vs LP Smartside

T1-11 has been commonly used to build sheds and is rated for exterior use. It has an attractive wood grain and can be painted to any color. The cons of this product are that due to its wood nature it can rot over time, is susceptible to termite damage and often comes with no warranty.

LP smartside is an engineered wood product. This means it has been chemically treated to endure rot and resist termites. It comes in a tan primed color which gives some protection or we can paint it any Sherwin Williams color. It has a 5/50 year warranty from the manufacturer. This warranty is applicable for hail damage, termite damage, and deterioration. Lincoln Built builds their sheds exclusively using this product as it has been tested as a superior product for thousands of sheds.

Roof/Accessories:

A shed typically lasts for 30 years when built with the proper materials and techniques. Common weak points on sheds where you see rot are the doors, corners, and roof if not properly shingled.

Lincoln Built sheds address these common weaknesses by using 30 year architectural shingles. We also use PVC trim on all of our doors, windows, and corners of our shed. PVC is a material commonly used for all of the water piping in your home and will never rot, nor need to be painted. It is maintenance free. (*peaceful sigh*)

Do you build these on site or deliver them?

We build 100% of our sheds on site. We do not do delivery. We build our sheds on site on average in 2 days and leave your yard clean and clear of heavy duty equipment, mud and tearout.

This allows us to customize your shed exactly how you want it. You can tell us to match your home, where to build the shed, where you would like the doors and windows to be and more. Think custom home versus manufactured home. If you have a fence or HOA we commonly work in those environments and have never had an issue with building or approvals.

How much does X shed size cost?

We get this question A LOT. We actually have our pricing listed for everyone to view on our website. Our price ranges from $2790 to $9990 depending on the size and use you have. A 4×8 shed is $2790 and a single car garage size is $9990. Our most popular shed is an 8×12 and is $5590. All of our pricing includes on site installation, our standard features, and tax.

Customizations

There are also customization options that are listed as well. Our most common customizations are painting them to match your home which is $4/sq ft. (Example 8×16 = 128sq ft x 4 = $512). We paint our sheds with the highest quality paint called rain refresh by Sherwin Williams which washes itself when it rains. This helps promote the longevity of your shed.

Another common upgrade is a heavy duty ramp which is $250. This allows you to get your push or riding mower up into your shed as well as ease of access when storing things.

If you are using your shed for storage another common upgrade is loft space which is overhead storage space ($25/ linear foot) or workbench space ($15/ linear foot). Learn more about our customizations by reading our blog post, 10 ways to beautify your shed.
